Foundations of Art

I really enjoyed my Foundations of Art class. I learned many new techniques, styles, and kinds of art. There were obviously projects I found hard and projects that came more naturally. I enjoyed the processes that were more creative. I liked the colorful projects, like my swallowtail painting. I did not enjoy as much the self portraits.

Some of the hardest projects I did were the beautiful oops, scratch board, and the wire sculpture. The reason the beautiful oops was hard was because it was before I had taken any classes. I had not been thinking very creatively and did not make a detailed picture. The scratch board was hard because I had to pull out negative space. Making a soft textured background with a scratching tool was also difficult. Finally, the hardest project was the wire sculpture. The hooks were really difficult to make tight attachments.

I think my best projects were probably the graphite self portrait, the 84 color project, and my assemblage sculpture. I think the graphite self portrait is probably the best self portrait I have ever made. It ended up kind of boxy, but I am very happy with how it turned out in the other areas. My 84 color project came out good too. Not only did It help me understand mixing colors better, it allowed me use paint pens which I really enjoy. I like the swallowtail silhouette and the stained glass looking background. I really loved my assemblage sculpture. I thought is was the most fun project, and liked being very creative with it. I thought choosing different materials was cool. I was really happy with the final result.

This art class has a big impression on me. I have always had been interested in art, and because I was homeschooled and my parents did not like art or want to teach it to me. It was important to me to have a real art class. This class taught me more about art in two semesters than I had known for the rest of my life. Over this course my art improved so much, but going back over my artist statements, they have definitely improved along with my pieces. This class was very enjoyable and I really like it.
