Emotional Fruit

For this project the we had to receive a random prompt, and create an art piece based on this prompt. The prompt I received was very specific, "an angry banana chasing a happy grape around a bowl of singing cherries." I was a bit struck by this because I felt like I did not have much room for artistic interpretation here. I was able to make my own creativity through the expressions that my fruit was had.

I started out by sketching the outlines of the fruit, as well as their faces. I made the banana look like a cranky old man, by giving him angry eyebrows and pulling the peel down like a mustache. I painted the bowl of cherries sitting in a metal bowl. I gave them all open mouths so that they were singing, although they ended up looking more surprised. I started by drawing a single grape, but I was unable to make it look like fruit. I decided to fix this by adding two more grapes on the vine. After I got these general sketches finished I started in with paint. I did not have any watercolor at my house so I watered down acrylic paint for the fruit and background. I decided to make the fruit on a hardwood table.

I like the art created, but not that much. I was not that happy with the background. I also think the fruit does not contrast as much as I was hoping. I also added limbs to the banana so that it was chasing the grapes. I think my favorite part of the project is the bowl of cherries. I think they were cute. and the bowl turned out how I wanted it to. Overall the whole project is very cartoony, which is fine.
