This is my Mechanical Paradox Project. For this project I decided to build on my ideas for concentration, which I was thinking would be animal themed. So far, I have been drifting towards the ideas of sea creatures. I liked making the squid from my beautiful oops and decided to keep this style.
For this project, the theme was mechanical mixed with natural. I decided to make a turtle, where the shell has mechanics, like a toy car. I sketched out the turtle and used watercolor to make the background with greens, blues, and purples. I used colored pencils to color the turtle. It was difficult to vary color in order to avoid the turtle looking flat. I added some white for highlights to give the turtle some texture to make it look more realistic. I added gears to the shell. I used grey and black for them, and then I added some color to make it look like a turtle's shell underneath. I added silver pen to outline them to make them stand out more. I also added a wind up on top to make the idea of a toy car come through.
I hope to continue this concentration with more sea creatures, or at least animals. I like using watercolor, but i might branch off into different tools and materials. I like the more abstract background with more detail foregrounds focused in brushstrokes, so I am planning to continue on with this theme.
