Donate Life

HAVE A HEART / DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH

These are donate life posters. The goal of the project is to create positive awareness towards organ and tissue donation. It was meant to be a poster to encourage teens who get their license to choose to be an organ donor. My first idea was to make a driver’s license to connect to the theme of the project. I looked up a few different Maine driver’s licenses to see what the looked like, then started the project.

I started with the shape of the border to make it look like a license. I created a box on the left side like a photo would go on a license. I then (in pencil), using different font templates, wrote Maine in one corner, Driver’s License on top, USA over Maine in another corner, and the words “Organ Donor”. I decided I wanted to create a background on the license. Instead of following the regular Maine template, I I put pink hearts in the background. I went over the lettering in pen and then started on other details. Following the Driver’s License format, I wrote where the name would be and where the date would go. Most aspects had some sort of significance. The license code which is 1548500 is the number of organ transplants that have ever happened. The DOB is when the first organ donation occurred (12/23/54) and the issued date is (12/03/67) when the first heart transplant happened. I signed “donate life” as the name. I made two near identical copies of this.

The next thing I did was to decide the organs. One I made with a heart and the other with lungs. I made both out of pure contour using different colored pens. I used hatch marks to add shading. After finishing these I added a few more details, like DONATE ORGANS TISSUE, and ORGAN AND TISSUE DONATION, on both.
