Concentration #5

Alex

Androphobia - Fear of men

For this project, I decided to take my concentration a step further. I chose to use balloons as my material. I began the project by blowing up different colored balloons to the point of popping. I decided to create a portrait of a friend of mine from my art class: Alex. I began by sketching his face in graphite. I used scissors to cut the balloons into different shapes and glued them onto the sketch. I then used a heat gun to melt the latex. This caused the colors to blend together and shrink and fold a bit. I used watercolor to create an orange cloud around the figure. This shape was based on the browned paper from the burning of the heat gun. To add more interesting lines, I traced Alex's signature many times in the background of the piece.
