Time Capsules

Time Capsules 3

These are my time capsule drawings. For this project I was given four prompts to create four different pieces of art. Each piece was supposed to take about 30 minutes, however mine tended to take about 45 minutes to an hour each. The four prompts were the following: A self portrait from an untraditional angle, my feet, a still life I despise, and the outside of a building.

I started with the self portrait. This project was supposed to be pure contour made with a sharpie, and I was not allowed to pick up my pen the entire time. I laid the mirror flat on a table and looked down on it to have a weird angle. Once I had done all the outlines done I went over some of the lines again, specifically in the hair. Next I used water color to fill in all the boxes with color. There were warm colors like orange and yellow in the face and cool colors like blue and green in the hair. Next I put stripes of different colors in the background. My next project was the picture of my feet. I chose to take one shoe off because I had interesting and colorful socks on. I left the other shoe on. I drew one sock and one shoe which was a converse. I painted them with watercolor.

The next project is the object I dislike, which I chose to do zucchini. I don't like zucchini I picked one out from the refrigerator and drew it and shaded with with graphite pencils. Once I had finished I did not like it (no pun intended) So I wanted to add something to take up the negative space. I add some zucchini flowers in the background to add some selective color to make it stand out away from the zucchini. Finally I had my building. I didn't know what to do so I eventually decided to draw the tree house in my backyard. It has really cool negative space. I used a ruler and pencils to sketch it out. There was a lot of negative space so I cut out the building to give it a cool shape.
