Donate Life

For this project I was making a picture for the Donate Life competition. The goal of the project is to create positive awareness towards organ and tissue donation. It was meant to be a poster to encourage teens who get their license to choose to be an organ donor. I was trying to brainstorm some ideas for unique phrases that I could make a design with.

The phrase I ended up choosing was "anyone can be a hero". I chose to play of this theme by including super heroes in my design. I wanted to create to heroes, male and female, without faces. I sketched out the stereotypical design of muscular people, and I gave them uniforms and capes. I then went on to paint the background. I just used blue because the sky and part of the donate life logo show this shade of blue. I painted the characters next with blues, reds, and blacks, the typical colors of super heroes. I then painted the hair to look like it was in the wind to make the heroes look more majestic.

I wanted to add some details to contrast the brushiness of the painting. I used black pen to outline both figures and to draw a human heart in the logo of the male heroes chest. I thought that printing out letters would be more effective, so I chose a font I liked, and printed out the letters of the phrase, cutting them out somewhat rough. I glued these letters on the top and bottom in a way that made sense.
