AP Studio Art

AP Studio Art has been my last art class of high school, but hopefully not the last I will ever take in a classroom setting. I have developed and grown so much this year, and I believe this is displayed as my art skill and style have developed. I have played around with many different styles and techniques over my past four years of art classes, but I believe this year my pieces have become recognizable as my own, which I see as a great accomplishment.

I chose to study balloons as the focus of a concentration this year. At first this seems like it would have innumerable possibilities, however, like every concentration, I soon got frustrated and burnt out with the same theme. It pushed my creativity to come up with different projects that all still connected. I was able to make some of my favorite projects in my entire portfolio during this process, which I am greatly thankful for. My favorite being the roman statues piece, which I feel truly represents my style balance of messy with neat, using my core materials. I would not say I have a least favorite piece this year, but I would say that I have a most challenging piece: the portrait made up of balloons. This pushed my far beyond what I knew, to learn about a new material and experiment during the project.

Overall, I am pleased with this portfolio and am excited to exhibit it for others to see. I believe it is able to incapsulate every kind of work I have wanted to work with. This has been a year full of stepping out of my comfort zone, creating weird and messy pieces, but the idea of making people uncomfortable and making them think when they see my art is something I am excited to continue. For me, this has given me a purpose in creating, and I fully intend on continuing this as long as possible.
