For this semester I made a total of nine projects, all of which were sculptures. My overall experience in this 3D design was really good. I loved trying new ways of making art. Before this class I really had no experience with making sculptures. I felt like every project I got the chance to try a new material or new theme to work with. I really enjoyed working with many of the materials that I learned how to use in this class, some self-taught and some that the entire class learned. For example, I loved using CDs, they really gave an appearance that was so unique, and are definitely something I want to use in the future. I also really liked using alginate. Something about the realism of the hands that I molded in it were just so satisfying! This is a material I would love to see more of.

One of the parts of this year that I did not enjoy as much was the wearable sculpture. This was the project I struggled the most with, and I liked my final result the least. I think it ended with with a tacky appearance, and I wish I had gone with a different route. I am the most proud of the projects that evolved as I continued to work with them. This includes my Relief Portrait, my Mainah project, and my first concentration project. For all of these projects I had one plan in mind for my thumbnail sketch, but they ended up being something different and much more interesting then I had imagined.

I think looking back at these projects this year it is obvious to see the evolution of my sculptures. The more original my idea was, the better they turned out. As can be seen, the more freedom I was given for interpretation, the more interesting the project turned out, like my look inside project and my concentration sculptures. At the beginning of the year, I also tended to do things for random/unclear reasons, like building a little temple on top of my paper sculpture, or painting the nails red on the political hands, but later, everything I do has a purpose too it. I liked making the projects that were more random, or did not have a deep meaning. I think having this kind of art is very important, but I tended to enjoy the projects like the Maine project. I like to think of myself as a bright and cheerful person, and I think that I can display this in my art, which all tend to be light colors. I tended to find myself working with certain themes and materials. For example, at the beginning I worked with a lot of shiny materials. Towards the middle of the year I spent a lot of time with sculpy, which I grew to really like. I also tried delicate materials such as plaster and clay. Overall, this semester was really enjoyable and I hope to continue in art and sculpting.
