Current 8th Grade

Forecasting is now complete for the 2022-2023 school year. Future students can still read below to get an idea of what forecasting will look like for next year. Please check back in after winter break for forecasting information for the Class of 2027!

Welcome, Class of 2026!

We look forward to welcoming our future Cougars to Mountain View! The first step in that process is forecasting, which starts with choosing your classes for next year.

In March, 8th graders who are scheduled to attend MVHS next year will forecast for classes. You will receive forecasting information and instructions at school. You can also use this site as a resource to walk through the forecasting process.

Additionally, we invite you to join us at the MVHS 8th Grade Orientation Night on Monday, March 14, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. in the MVHS auditorium. There you will learn more about what to expect as a freshman and how to make the most of your first year as a Cougar. You'll find all your important forecasting dates below.

If you missed the 8th Grade Orientation Night, you can see our presentation by clicking here.

What Happens During Forecasting?

You will begin forecasting at school. MVHS counselors will visit your middle school (see dates above) and explain how to choose your classes. You will use this website or the printable Freshman Curriculum Guide to learn about the classes available to incoming freshmen, see courses that match up to your goals and aptitudes, and start planning your high school courses. You may even want to fill out an optional four-year planning worksheet to get a feel for how your classes might fit together during your high school career. You will use all of this information, along with conversations with your current teachers, counselor, and/or parent/guardian, to decide which classes you would like to take next year.

What Does a Typical 9th Grade Schedule Look Like?

All freshmen at MVHS have a full schedule of 7.5 credits. A typical freshman schedule looks like this:

Freshman electives are available in Agriculture Science (including welding/metals), Automotive Technology, Business, Cadet Corps, Computer Science, Culinary Arts, Engineering, Fine Arts, Media Arts, PE & Health, Performing Arts, World Languages, and Woodworking. 9th Grade Forecasting Instructions

  1. Watch the MVHS counseling team's forecasting overview. This video will give you a quick look at who your counselors are, what forecasting is, why it is important, and when it will happen. Video is embedded below in case the link here doesn't work.

  2. Watch the nuts-and-bolts course request tutorial. This video will give you detailed instructions on exactly how to forecast once you know which courses you want to take next year. Video is embedded below in case the link here doesn't work.

  3. Take the first step in requesting your classes: Fill out the MVHS 22-23 Freshman Forecasting Form. This form acts as a worksheet for you to use when you proceed to the next step, and it gives your MVHS scheduling team a back-up record of the classes you wanted to take.

      • Every freshman at MVHS takes 7.5 credits' worth of classes. Make sure the classes you choose on the Google Form, including Health 1, Freshman Foundations, Biology 1, and a PE course, add up to 7.5 credits.

      • If you are a student at Sky View Middle School, Pilot Butte Middle School, or High Desert Middle School, you will then proceed to step 3 below.

      • If you are a student at another middle school that does not use StudentVUE to forecast, you will stop here.

  4. After you complete the Google Form, you will do the most important part of forecasting: Choosing your classes in StudentVUE! If Course Request won't work in your StudentVUE app, log into StudentVUE in a Web browser.

  5. Officially request your classes. You will complete the forecasting process by officially requesting your courses in StudentVUE.

      • Once you're in StudentVUE, click "Course Request" (from the menu on the left if you are on the site).

      • Scroll down to the blue button that says "Click here to change course requests."

      • Click that button and, using the verification you received after submitting your Google form, search for the first class you want.

      • When you find the class you want, click "Add Request" to add the class to your main requests; click "Add Alternate" to request it as one of your 5 alternate (second-choice) classes.

      • Continue until your main courses add up to exactly 7.5 credits. Make sure you also have 5 alternates.

      • Click "Click here to return to course request summary" to save your course requests.

      • (Virtual) high five! You're done! We'll see you in September.

          • Remember: If you are a student at Sky View Middle School, Pilot Butte Middle School, or High Desert Middle School, you have not finished forecasting--and cannot be scheduled for next year--until you officially request your courses in StudentVUE.
