Math 2

Grades 9-12

MA236SMA

Math 2

This is the general math course for most sophomores. This course is a study of geometric figures and their properties, some advanced algebra concepts and more data literacy.  Throughout the course, a major emphasis is placed on inductive/deductive reasoning . Basic trigonometry, parallel and perpendicular lines, circles and conics will be covered. Additionally students will deepen their understanding of the topics through modeling and investigate complex probability scenarios. Students will also learn more about data and statistics.

Length: Year  ●  Credit: 1.0  ●  Prerequisite: Math 1  ●  NCAA Approved

Course Q & A

What can I expect in this class?

In Geometry, you can expect to learn geometric notation, how to justify your solutions, the mathematical relationships between lines, and right triangle trigonometry.

What does a typical day in this class look like?

A typical day in Geometry might include taking notes and working on example problems.

What about homework?

A typical day of homework in Geometry consists of around eight to 12 problems designed to take 30-45 minutes.

What about tests?

You can expect to have a test on every module. Tests in Geometry are a small part of the grade. The majority of your grade is built by performance tasks, which give every student the chance to show their understanding by creating work samples.

What do past students say about this class?

Past students have said it's the first time math has made sense and that the skills and ideas can be used outside of just the math classroom.

Why should I take this class?

You should take this class if you want a high school diploma!

Is there a prerequisite for this class?

To be successful in Geometry, you should have completed Algebra 1 with a grade of C or better.

What else do I need to know about this class?

There are many options available to help support you if you have struggled previously in math.
