AP US History will provide a challenging and deep look at the full scope of our nation’s history. This course is based on numerous historical thinking and reasoning skills that will ask you to critically process in the deep analysis of our country’s successes, issues, changes, and trends. It also utilizes eight thematic learning objectives to help organize multifaceted content. You will learn to use comparison, causation, continuity and change, and contextualization as you look at numerous historical sources and stimuli on a daily basis. Document-based questions, long and short answer writing, and numerous projects will stress reading, writing, and speaking skills. This course is for students who are highly motivated to complete and master college-level work. Excellent attendance, time management, and study skills are mandatory. Homework is often 30-60 minutes/night. Participation in the AP Exam is strongly encouraged. Scroll down to see questions and answers about this class!

  • Dual Credit Course: Oregon college credit may be available for this class. Work with the teacher to coordinate college credit and pay any associated fees.

What can I expect in this class?

In AP US History, you should expect to be pushed as hard as you ever have in terms of your critical thinking, reading, writing, time management, and work ethic while learning and appreciating the entire scope of United States history.

What does a typical day in this class look like?

A typical day in AP US History might include class discussions, lecture, debates, projects, and directed learning.

What about homework?

Expect to spend 30 to 60 minutes per night of reading, taking notes, and answering questions.

What about tests?

Tests in AP US History are varied and focused on skills needed for the AP Exam in May. They include multiple choice, short answer, and long and document-based question essay formats.

What do past students say about this class?

Past students have said AP US History challenged them to become the best students they could be and completely prepared them for college-level classes. It wasn't easy, but in the end it was an accomplishment they were very proud of and they felt it made them better.
