Freshman Foundations

At Mountain View, all freshmen take a yearlong elective course designed just for them: Freshman Foundations. At the end of the year, you will receive a pass or no-pass grade—but along the way, you’ll get to know your classmates, develop a supportive relationship with your Freshman Foundations teacher, and learn how to make high school work for you. All freshmen at MVHS take Freshman Foundations. When you are choosing your 9th grade classes during forecasting in the spring of 8th grade, you will find this course has been pre-forecasted for you in StudentVUE.

In Foundations, you will learn about and practice skills that encourage well-being, strong character, and academic success using a curriculum put together by the organization CharacterStrong. The goal of the MVHS Freshman Foundations program is to provide you with a place to learn and practice the skills of good character in a supportive community where you can find mentorship and encouragement as you begin your high school career. During the second part of each class, you will also be given time to complete homework from your other courses and to develop connections with other classmates, a peer mentor, and a faculty mentor. You will go to Freshman Foundations on one out of every three 7th period days. This course is graded on a Pass/No Pass (P/NP) scale.
