Blue Group
Our 3rd grade Blue group is continuing to work on understanding fractions as numbers. Students are learning how to write whole numbers as fractions and represent quantities that are greater than one whole. They are exploring how these values can be written as both mixed numbers and improper fractions. For example, students might represent 3 wholes as 3/1 or 12/4 and show that 5/2 is the same as 2 1/2. We are using visual models such as fraction bars and area models to help students see how parts combine to make wholes and beyond. These models help students understand what the fractions represent rather than simply memorizing rules. The chapter test will take place on Monday, March 12, and students have a study guide available to help them prepare.
Yellow Group
Our 3rd grade Yellow group is working on generating equivalent fractions by using common multiples. Students are learning that fractions can look different but represent the same amount. For example, students may determine that 1/3 is equivalent to 2/6 or 3/9 by multiplying the numerator and denominator by the same number. We are using visual fraction models and number lines to help students see why the fractions are equal. We will begin to work with two fractions with different denominators and find their least common multiple, so we can generate two equivalent fractions with the same denominator. The chapter test will take place on Monday, March 12, and students have a study guide available to help them prepare.

In Social Studies, our 3rd-grade students are diving into the exciting world of finances and entrepreneurship through three engaging activities:
Part 1: Personal Finances
Students are envisioning their future and thinking about their dreams—and the costs associated with achieving them. They will create a simple budget and participate in a real-life financial simulation, learning valuable lessons about money management.
Part 2: The Free Enterprise System
In small groups, students will become budding entrepreneurs by designing and selling a product. Classmates will act as consumers, and groups will reflect on their company’s expenses, profits, and pricing decisions, gaining insights into the free enterprise system.
Part 3: Entrepreneurs at Work
Students will research famous entrepreneurs and explore their contributions to society. Through collaborative research and presentations, they will share their findings, fostering appreciation for innovation and the spirit of entrepreneurship.
This hands-on learning experience is sure to inspire creativity, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of economics!
This week, we will complete Ch.9 "Jesus and the Kingdom of God" in our Word of Life workbook. In this chapter, students will:
begin to understand that we must be baptized to enter into communion with God.
recognize that Jesus came to establish the Kingdom of God-the reign, or rule, of God.
begin to grasp that only by accepting God's graces can they enter the Kingdom of God.
know that Jesus founded the Church as the beginning of the Kingdom of God on earth.

3rd Trimester Service Hours and Reflections: Each student is asked to complete two service hours per trimester. Their 3rd Trimester Service Hours and Reflections are due Wednesday, May 13. This will be completed on Google Classroom. Optional: complete log on paper.
Several schools collect food for low-income students who might not otherwise have food over the weekends. The program is called Blessings in a Backpack. There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R. Kennedy Elementary which is close to Ascension.
