We will send home graded/completed work on Wednesdays. There will be a sheet for you to sign weekly showing that you have seen (and removed) all of their work. Forms from the office will also be included. Students have labeled the front pocket in their binder "Take Home".

5th Grade – Blue Group:
In math, students are learning how to rewrite pairs of fractions with a common denominator. We are practicing how to find the Least Common Multiple (LCM) of the denominators so we can determine the smallest shared denominator to use. Once we identify the LCM, students use their knowledge of equivalent fractions to rewrite each fraction without changing its value. This helps prepare them for adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. Our focus is on understanding how and why the fractions remain equal as we multiply the numerator and denominator by the same number, or 1 whole, building strong conceptual understanding rather than simply following steps.
5th Grade – Yellow Group:
Students are learning how to solve one-step equations to find the value of an unknown variable. We are focusing on understanding the equal sign as a balancing scale—whatever we do to one side, we must do to the other to keep it balanced. To solve an equation, students work to isolate the variable so they can determine what one of the unknowns is worth. We are practicing using the opposite operation (inverse operation) to “undo” what is happening to the variable. To build real-world connections, students are solving word problems and writing equations that match each scenario. They are also learning to recognize different symbols for multiplication, such as a dot or writing a number next to parentheses, and to represent division using fraction notation. Our goal is for students to understand not just how to solve equations, but why each step works.

Social Studies: Mrs. Crush
Students will continue researching a topic related to Social Studies and preparing a Google Slides presentation. This is a collaborative project with Social Studies and Technology. Students will present to their classmates at the end of the project.
Religion: Mrs. Crush
For Religion, we will begin Ch.11 "God Gives Us Power and Strength" in our Word of Life workbook. In this chapter, students will:
learn that the Holy Spirit gives us strength and power to be His witnesses.
learn the matter, form, and ordinary minister of the Sacrament of Confirmation.
begin to know how, in the Old Testament, God prepared signs and actions to be used in the Sacrament of Confirmation.
learn that bishops have been the ordinary ministers of Confirmation in the Latin Rite since the time of the Apostles.

3rd Trimester Service Hours and Reflections: Each student is asked to complete two service hours per trimester. Their 3rd Trimester Service Hours and Reflections are due Wednesday, May 13. This will be completed on Google Classroom. Optional: complete log on paper.
Several schools collect food for low-income students who might not otherwise have food over the weekends. The program is called Blessings in a Backpack. There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R. Kennedy Elementary which is close to Ascension.
