What we are Learning This Week
Math: Ms. Shell
We will focus this week on preparing for our Student Led conferences. Students are reflecting on their strengths, areas for improvement, and goals for the remainder of the First Trimester. As 4th graders, students will take a more active role in leading their conference to show ownership, responsibility, and advocate for themselves.
And additional time, we will continue to work on the skills from last week.
Blue Group
We will be spending a couple weeks covering addition and subtraction with whole numbers! We will primarily focus on equations that require quite a bit of regrouping, especially when subtracting acorss zeros. We will use base-10 blocks and virtual maniputlives, so students can concrete see why we compose and decompose place value positions. We will also work on estimating first, that way we have a target number to be close to and check the reasonableness of our answers.
Yellow Group
We will extend our learning from the first module on place value understanding to understand decimal place value. We wil work on reading and writing decimals to the thousandths using standard form, expanded form, and word form. We will always connect back to fractions to help us understand the value of the numbers we are working with.
Homework:
SS Lessons #19 and #20
LA: Mrs. Phelps
Skills we are developing this week include:
Reading/Writing:
-identify and examine the use of similes and metaphors in a narrative
-determine how figurative language adds to the readers understanding of an event
-recognize cause and effect events that create a major change in a character
Spelling:
-igh (long i) words (this is a big need that I noticed on the sentence dictation of the last spelling test)
Morphology:
-Latin base struct meaning to build (cex: construct, instructions, destruct)
Homework: No homework!
Social Studies: Mr. Lovett
Fourth Grade:
This week, we will finish the Colonial Matchmakers papers. In class, we will watch two videos about life in Colonial America. One for daily life as a kid and the second about the challenges that the colonists faced compared to today. Next, we will play a "choose your own adventure" Colonist game that ties together several of the ideas we discussed in class. Wednesday, we will do a colonial "mad-libs" as a fun way to end the week before Fall Break.
Homework: No Homework this week.
In WAG we will continue and complete our personal narratives by typing our narratives into our iPads to be turned in on Google Classroom and
Religion: Mr. Henson
The Religion quiz on Chapter 3 will be on Friday, October 2. The reviews are posted in the Religion Google Classroom. Students who received 100% on the review will not need to take the quiz on Friday.
