What we are Learning This Week
Math: Ms. Shell
We are jumping into our next unit on Factors and Multiples! Students are diving hands-on into factors, multiples, prime, and composite numbers through geometric exploration. Using square tiles and real-world scenarios—like organizing bakery displays into rectangular trays—students are physically building arrays to discover how side lengths connect directly to a number's factors. Through these interactive activities, children are learning that numbers with only one rectangular array configuration are prime (having exactly two factors: 1 and itself), while numbers that form multiple rectangular arrays are composite. This concrete approach ensures every student builds a deep, lasting conceptual understanding of multiplication and division structure.
Students completed a pre-assessment Monday morning, and I will use that to help determine our groups for the following couple weeks!

This week we begin a new unit: Road to Revolution. Monday we covered the French and Indian war. On Wednesday we will review the French and Indian war and discuss its ramifications as Parliament levied taxes on the colonies without their input. We will discuss the colonial responses to these acts on Friday and set the stage for the American Revolution.
Homework: No homework.
In WAG, we are continuing our unit on verbs and how different verbs are used in our writing to help express our thoughts clearly.

Dear Fourth Grade Families,
I’m excited to share how well our fourth graders have been doing with telling time in Spanish! This skill involves several steps, and we have been working through each one slowly and thoughtfully to give students time to practice, ask questions, and build confidence. I have been especially proud of their diligence and willingness to ask for clarification when something is unclear. They have embraced the challenge, and it has been wonderful to see them enjoying the learning process!
Our telling time test will be on Monday, November 16. While this is early notice, I wanted to give you plenty of time to plan and share how we will be preparing together.
Students began the attached study guide in class today. We will complete it together during our next class to ensure that students have correct answers to use when reviewing at home. In the classes leading up to the test, we will also work through a variety of practice activities to reinforce the material and help students feel prepared.
For at-home review, the best resources will be:
The completed study guide, which we will finish together next class.
The Blooket review, which I will post to Google Classroom next Monday.
There is no need to complete the unfinished portions of the study guide at home before our next class—we will work through those together. Once it is complete, brief review sessions with the guide and Blooket will be a helpful way to practice.
Most importantly, I want you to know how proud I am of this class. Telling time in another language takes patience and persistence, and our fourth graders have shown both. Their thoughtful questions and steady effort have made a real difference in their progress.
Thank you for your continued support! Please feel free to reach out with any questions:)
