Important Reminder:
We will send home graded/completed work on Wednesdays. There will be a sheet for you to sign weekly showing that you have seen (and removed) all of their work. Forms from the office will also be included. Students have labeled the front pocket in their binder "Take Home".
Skills we will be working on this week are:
Reading:
Students will take a reading comprehension assessment to end our unit on the Middle Ages. This assessment does not require studying at home.
Grammar:
differentiate between action verbs and linking verbs and use them in sentences
identify subject and predicate in sentences
Writing:
publish final draft of Codex project
Homework: Final Codex project completed and turned in by Thursday (if not completed in class)
Math: Mrs. Bennett
Blue Group:
Students are beginning to divide by 2-digit divisors—a big step in their understanding of division! We’re focusing on using estimation to help guide their work. Before solving, students first make an estimate of the quotient to determine where to place the first digit. They then use that estimate as a starting point, adjusting the digit if it’s too high or too low. This process helps them think critically about the size of numbers, develop number sense, and make connections between multiplication and division. Mastering this strategy is an essential skill before learning to divide decimals later this year, as it helps students build the confidence and accuracy they’ll need for more complex division problems.
Homework: 9/29 -10/3
I am making some changes to our homework routine this month! I want to incorporate homework that corresponds with what is currently being taught in class, along with our Simple Solutions spiral review. Students will have all week to complete the following assignments. It breaks down to one worksheet a day. Reflex will not be a required assignment this week, so students can adjust to this change in routine, but will be given time during class to complete Reflex sessions.
*All due Thursday 10/9 due to a short week*

Division Worksheet (estimate and solve 2-digit division)
Yellow Group:
We are reviewing how to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators. Students began by taking an assessment to see what they remembered from last year, and overall, they showed strong understanding! Our review will focus on solving multi-step word problems that involve adding and subtracting fractions—often with mixed numbers and different denominators. We’ll also practice scenarios that require borrowing from the whole number when subtracting, a tricky but important concept for accuracy. This review will strengthen students’ fraction fluency and prepare them for applying these skills in real-world problem solving later this year.

One HMH Homework Sheet: Practice Addition and Subtraction Using Equations
Social Studies: Mrs. Crush
Students will be focusing on the daily life in Mesopotamia. They will be reading a short passage exploring social classes, home, clothing, entertainment, food, and school. Afterwards, the students will be creating a foldable map to explore the different geographical features, along with answering questions. Once we complete our lessons on Mesopotamia, we will focus on a different ancient civilization to be able to compare and contrast to Mesopotamia.
Religion: Mrs. Crush
We will complete Chapter 5: God Enters Time and Space. Our students will:
come to know the significance of the circumstances in which Jesus was born.
learn that the purpose of the Incarnation of Jesus was to make it possible for man to become more like God through grace.
come to know that God takes earthly ordinary signs, symbols, and actions, and sanctifies them and works through them.
learn that through graces received through the sacraments, we receive new capacities.
Words to Know: form, Incarnation, Matter
Important Announcements:
Chapter 5 Test: The Chapter 4 test on God Enters Time and Space is Tuesday, October 7.

Several schools collect food for low-income students who might not otherwise have food over the weekends. The program is called Blessings in a Backpack. There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R. Kennedy Elementary which is close to Ascension.
