What we are Learning This Week
Math: Mrs. Bennett
This week in math class we are focusing on the Math MAP test! We will test a bit each day and then brain breaks to relieve any stress and move our bodies after focusing for longer period of times! I am eager to see your child's growth and progress so far this year!
Homework: 1/20 - 1/23
-No Math Homework due to MAP testing!
I always encourage students to continue to work on Reflex if they are not to full mastery yet!
LA: Mrs. Phelps
Skills we will be developing weekly include:
Reading:
RI.4.1-Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text
RI.4.2 Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details; summarize the text
RI.4.3 Based on specific information in the text, explain events, procedures, ideas, or concepts in historical, scientific, or technical texts
RI.4.8 Explain how claims in a text are supported by relevant reasons and evidence
**Topics we are reading about to develop these skills include: the rock cycle, weathering, erosion, and mountains
Morphology:
Latin base rupt meaning "to burst or break"
Greek base graph meaning "to write or draw"
Grammar:
practice inserting quotations and commas in sentences containing direct quotes or dialogue
Spelling:
Our spelling words this week contain 3 commonly used morphemes (arch, rupt, and graph). The pictures below show what we did in class together last week. Not only does knowing the meaning of each morpheme in a word help us to understand the meaning, it also helps with spelling. Some words we broke into syllables to help us spell them, others we focused more on the larger chunks that have their own meaning. Students have this in their binder.
Homework: Spelling Test Wednesday (rescheduled from last week, words below)
-Volcano Wiki entry completed and due by Friday (many students have finished, others have a couple small details to button up! They should have it submitted on google classroom.)
