Cooler days are here! 🍂 Please remind your child(ren) to bring a cozy coat or wear pants to school. We’ll be heading outside for brain breaks, recess, and fresh air unless it’s raining or freezing. Let’s keep everyone warm and ready for outdoor fun! ❄️🧥
Important Reminder:
We will send home graded/completed work on Wednesdays. There will be a sheet for you to sign weekly showing that you have seen (and removed) all of their work. Forms from the office will also be included. Students have labeled the front pocket in their binder "Take Home".
Reading:
This week we will read rhyming poems and identify rhyme scheme by labeling the patterns of the rhyming words at the end of line breaks. We will also summarize the overall message of a poem and analyze figurative language (metaphors and similes).
Writing:
Daily writing opportunities this week involve the following:
write a poem using anaphora (I am From poem- students may have some questions to ask about their family in order to complete this)
write an original poem that rhymes
create similes and metaphors describing the movements of animals
Homework: Poetry Worksheet Due Thursday (no class Friday due to house challenge)
The culminating event for this unit will be a joint poetry slam for 4th and 5th grade. Parents will be invited to this event so please be on the look out for the date!
Math: Mrs. Bennett
Blue Group:
This week, we will finish learning how to interpret remainders in real-world division problems! We’ve been exploring the four different ways to handle a remainder — use it, report it, ignore it, or round it — depending on what makes sense in the situation. For example, students learned that sometimes you need to round up when dividing people into groups, while other times you report the remainder as part of the answer. We will take our unit test this week. Homework this week is designed to help them review and prepare, and a study guide is available.
I am planning for the test to be Thursday 10/30.

Mrs. Bennett Maternity Leave
Dear Families,
As many of you know, my daughter was born at the end of last school year. It has been such a joy becoming a mom, and I am incredibly grateful to be able to continue teaching, while being a mom, and have thoroughly enjoyed having Folly right down the hall! After much thought, I’ve decided to take a short maternity leave to have some special quality at home with her. I will be out for 15 school days in November.
I want to reassure you that our class will continue to grow, learn, and be challenged in all the best ways. I will still be writing all of the lesson plans myself while I’m away. Each week, I will review what the students are learning, how they are doing on key skills, and adjust the next week’s plans to meet their needs—just as I do now. Your child’s education will remain thoughtful, rigorous, and full of high expectations and support.
For homework during this time, students will complete the following assignments weekly:
Simple Solutions lessons
3 Reflex sessions per week
Students will receive a November calendar to help track their weekly Reflex sessions. I will collect and review their weekly Reflex sessions when I return, and give students a grade for completion. Students will grade their Simple Solutions homework every Friday, and have oppurtunity to ask questions or for help!
Thank you so much for your support, understanding, and partnership. I am truly grateful to work with such wonderful students and families. I will miss the class very much, but I am also excited to spend this special time with my daughter—and I look forward to returning in December with lots of stories and energy!
With gratitude,
Mrs. Bennett
