3rd Grade Math Update 📐
Following our awesome Gingerbread House activity, we will continue to work on area and perimeter for a bit longer! This week in math, our third graders are focusing on understanding the difference between area and perimeter. Students are learning to determine when to calculate area and when to calculate perimeter, and to understand that these measurements describe different attributes of a shape.
After identifying which measurement is needed, students are practicing how to apply the correct formula. We are emphasizing:
Area = Length x Width and is always measured in Square Units
Perimeter = L + W + L + W or (2 x L) + (2 x W) and is always measure in linear Units
We are wrapping up this chapter and preparing for our upcoming assessment. However, due to Math MAP testing, we will not take the chapter test until after the Reading and Math MAP tests are complete. This gives students plenty of time to review, practice, and prepare without added pressure during standardized testing. A study guide will be provided soon! You may print it or use Google Slides to work through it with your child at home. Thank you for your continued support!
