Math: Mrs. Bennett
Blue Group:
According to our beginning-of-the-year assessment, many students needed a refresher on multiplying decimals, so we’re giving this important skill some extra attention. We are practicing how to recognize when multiplication is required in a word problem, since this can sometimes be tricky. Students are also learning why, unlike addition or subtraction, we don’t line up the decimal points when multiplying — instead, we focus on place value and count the total number of decimal places at the end. Through real-world examples, such as figuring out the cost of several items or the total weight of ingredients in a recipe, students are building both confidence and understanding in applying decimal multiplication.
Yellow Group:
Our class is diving into a review of multi-digit multiplication! Students are learning to estimate the product first to check if their answers make sense, then solve using regrouping to find the exact answer. As we build confidence, we’ll progress from smaller problems to more complex ones, including 3-digit by 2-digit and even 3-digit by 3-digit equations. When working with 3-digit by 3-digit problems, students are practicing how to keep their work organized and remember to add two zeros in the third row of partial products before finding the final sum. Word problems will be woven into our lessons so students can apply their skills to real-world situations — from calculating supplies for a fall festival to writing our own scenarios. These activities strengthen number sense and help students see the purpose behind multiplication.
The YELLOW group ONLY will have a chapter test this Friday. Students have access to a chapter review on HMH that will help them study/preapre! There test will cover the following skills:
Recognize the 10-to-1 Relationship Among Place-Value Positions
Use Powers of 10 and Exponents
Use a Pattern to Multiply by Multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000
Multiply by Multi-Digit Numbers

Social Studies: Mrs. Crush
We will continue our Civics Standards Unit, where students will:
Explain the political structures of various governments in ancient civilizations.
Analyze the relationship between governance and religion in River Valley Civilizations and Classical Empires.
Describe key political institutions such as monarchy, democracy, republic, empire, and theocracy.
Evaluate the rights, roles, responsibilities, and limitations of citizenship in classical Greece and Rome.
Assess how historical, economic, geographic, and cultural factors influence social and government structures.
Last week, students were placed in groups of 4 given different ancient government scenarios. They will be performing their skits this week. Each student was provided with the directions and rubric. This should be in their Social Studies section of their binder.
Religion: Mrs. Crush
We will continue Chapter 4: The Word of God Made Present among Us. Our students will:
Know how God worked in the Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth.
Learn that God instructed His people to build the Ark of the Covenant, through which He was present to them. (See Image).
Come to know the similarities between God's presence in the Ark of the Covenant and the Word of God taking flesh and dwelling among us.
Learn that through God's grace, Mary is the new Ark of the Covenant.
On Monday, we went to the church to see our tabernacle. See image.
Important Announcements:

Several schools collect food for low-income students who might not otherwise have food over the weekends. The program is called Blessings in a Backpack. There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R. Kennedy Elementary which is close to Ascension.
