What we are Learning This Week
Math: Mrs. Bennett
This week in Math class we are starting to work on our Project Based Learning activity to help connect what we are learning to the real world! We have used snowflakes as an example of lines and angles in nature, but will think of other ways nature shows angles like leaves, flowers/plants, and constellations. Students will read about some of the most famous constellations such as Draco, Orion, Ursa Major, Cassiopeia, and more. Students will use their protractor to measure the angles within these different constellations. Afterwards, students will begin to design their own constellation that represents their name using a coordinate grid. Students will measure the angles represented in their constellaitons as well as the length of each line to the nearest quarter inch. We will then use Tinker Cad to design create a 3D representation that can be 3D printed.
Homework: 1/12 - 1/16
SS 49
SS 50
3 Reflex Sessions by Friday (giving time in class as well)

Reading MAP Test
Spelling:
Our spelling words this week contain 3 commonly used morphemes (arch, rupt, and graph). The pictures below show what we did in class together last week. Not only does knowing the meaning of each morpheme in a word help us to understand the meaning, it also helps with spelling. Some words we broke into syllables to help us spell them, others we focused more on the larger chunks that have their own meaning. Students have this in their binder.
Homework: Spelling Test Friday, the 16th (written in their agendas)
**Normally, I would not assign homework on the week we take the MAP test, however, this date was predetermined prior to us deciding what order we would be taking the MAP tests in this time around. We should have pockets of time to practice them throughout the week!
Social Studies: Mrs. Crush
Students will continue working on their Kentucky County Project. Each student has been assigned a cluster of counties in Kentucky to research as they learn about different regions of our state. This project will be completed in both Social Studies and Technology.

Several schools collect food for low-income students who might not otherwise have food over the weekends. The program is called Blessings in a Backpack. There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R. Kennedy Elementary which is close to Ascension.
