What we are Learning This Week
Math: Mrs. Bennett
This week our class is diving into an exciting unit on area and perimeter! We’ll begin by exploring perimeter as a linear measurement, using string to wrap around everyday objects so students can clearly see that perimeter measures the distance around something. As we move forward, students will learn how to apply the formula for perimeter to solve problems — including finding a missing side length when the total perimeter is given. Once they’re comfortable with these ideas, we’ll introduce area and compare how it measures the amount of space inside a shape. To put their learning into action, students will design their own Halloween Haunted Houses on graph paper. They’ll create floor plans, designate areas for different spooky rooms, and calculate both the perimeter and area of each space. At home, you can support this work by encouraging your child to measure the perimeter of items like picture frames, placemats, or rugs, and then use length × width to find the area of rectangles.

There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R.
