Skills we will be working on this week are:
Reading:
identify the themes of the story and explain how characters’ actions demonstrate specific story themes (hospitality, friendship, responsibility, irresponsibility)
identify literary devices such as, dialogue, narration, personification, and perspective (we have conversation on these topics as we read the chapters of the story)
identify which point of view a story is being told from (1st or 3rd)
Speaking/ Listening:
listen to a Read-Aloud for details that describe a character
Language/Foundational Skills:
demonstrate an understanding of figurative language, For example, the proverb, “One rotten apple spoils the whole barrel"
use syllabication to break written words into syllables
identify open, closed, magic e, and vowel team syllables (reading and writing words with long and short vowels)
Homework: Activity p. 5.1 (read passage) and 5.2 (comprehension questions) due Friday
