What we are Learning This Week
Math: Mrs. Bennett
We are beginning our next math chapter focused on understanding division with 1-digit divisors. Students will be learning and practicing a strategy called partial quotients, which helps them break (or “chunk”) large division problems into smaller, more manageable parts.
Using partial quotients allows students to rely on place value and what they already know about multiplication. Instead of trying to divide a large number all at once, students subtract groups they know (for example, multiples of 10 or 100) and keep track of how much they’ve divided so far. This strategy builds strong number sense, encourages flexible thinking, and helps students understand why division works—not just how to get an answer. We will also begin working on estimating quotients. Estimation helps students determine whether their answers are reasonable and makes them more confident problem-solvers, especially when working with larger numbers.
We will continue our angles and measurement project, but it will now be worked on once a week. With MAP testing and recent snow days, this adjustment allows us to keep moving forward with new content while still giving students time to thoughtfully engage with the project.
Homework: 2/2 - 2/6

Social Studies: Mrs. Crush
We will be MAP Testing this week.
Students will continue working on their Kentucky County Project. Each student has been assigned a cluster of counties in Kentucky to research as they learn about different regions of our state. This project will be completed in both Social Studies and Technology.
We are also continue working in our state postcard exchange! We have already received several postcards from around the country and will be mailing ours out soon as well.
Religion: Mrs. Crush
For Religion, we will be focusing on our saint of the month, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton! It's very special that we learn about her with it also being Catholic Schools Week. She is the first American born saint and also started the first Catholic school. Each student was given a packet with activities to learn more about her. See the NTI 4th Grade Google Slide for the activities to be completed each day. Please refrain from working ahead as we will pick up where we stopped when we return to school.
Important Announcements:
2nd Trimester Service Hours and Reflections: Each student is asked to complete two service hours per trimester. Their 2nd Trimester Service Hours and Reflections are due Wednesday, February 11. This will be completed on Google Classroom. Optional: complete log on paper.
***If you turn in by Wednesday, February 4, you will earn your 3 extra House points. Must be turned in.
Science: Mrs. Jackel
Several schools collect food for low-income students who might not otherwise have food over the weekends. The program is called Blessings in a Backpack. There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R. Kennedy Elementary which is close to Ascension.
