What we are Learning This Week
Math: Mrs. Bennett
This week, our class is tackling missing-digit addition and subtraction puzzles! Students are applying what they know about place value, regrouping, and the properties of operations to figure out which numbers make each equation true. They’re carefully lining up digits by place value, reasoning with regrouping, and checking that their answers make sense. These challenges strengthen mental math, logical thinking, and perseverance—important skills for solving real-world problems and building confidence with multi-digit computation.
Students are also wrapping up Modulel 1: Place Value Understandings, which has included work with the base-10 system, comparing numbers, and rounding to the ten-thousands, thousands, hundreds, and tens places, lastly addition and subtraction. Students completed a chapter review on HMH and have access to a study guide on Google Classroom. Students are not requried to complete the study guide, but it an available to help aide in their studying.

READING MAP TEST!
Starting Tuesday, we will be taking the reading MAP test. Monday we will go over some helpful test taking strategies. After each testing session, we will get a good break outside to burn off some energy! We will spend the rest of our class time working on an opinion writing piece about social classes in the Middle Ages. Students will be choosing who they would be if they lived during the Middle Ages; a serf, craftsman, knight, lord, or monk/nun.
No homework this week!
Social Studies: Mrs. Crush
We will continue our exploration of civics standards. Our students have been actively engaged in learning about:
Diverse Forms of Self-Government: They are comparing the political form of monarchy with the self-governing systems developed in colonial America.
Civic Participation: Students are understanding the importance of civic participation through local examples from past and current events.
Processes for Change: They are describing the processes people use to change rules and laws and how these developments improve communities to meet the needs of citizens.

Religion: Mrs. Crush
We will continue Chapter 2, Faith, Reason, and the Eternal Law, in our Word of Life workbooks. This chapter will help students:
Know that the eternal law is God's divine plan of love for all creation.
Realize that by following God's moral laws, they can live with true freedom.
Realize that by exploring the world and asking questions, they can understand that natural law.
Understand that faith and reason are not opposed to each other because both come from God.
*Please note this chapter is a bit more challenging than chapters we have studied in the past. It is really important for the students to study these materials throughout the chapter to better prepare for the chapter test.

Additional Information
We kindly ask that you check your child’s take-home folder located in the front tab of their binder every Wednesday. All graded and completed work will be sent home on this day, so you only need to check once a week. Please take a moment to review their work and sign the signature page next to that Wednesday’s date to acknowledge their progress.
Several schools collect food for low-income students who might not otherwise have food over the weekends. The program is called Blessings in a Backpack. There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R. Kennedy Elementary which is close to Ascension.
