What we are Learning This Week
Math: Mrs. Bennett
This week in math, our class is working on rounding whole numbers. Students are learning to use number lines to visualize what it means to shift a number to different place value positions. We are focusing on rounding 5- and 6-digit numbers to the nearest hundred, thousand, and ten thousand. By using number lines, students are developing a stronger understanding of why a number rounds up or down, rather than just memorizing a rule. Students will identify the midpoint number and then pick numbers that are located to the left and the right of the midpoint proving that number rounds up or down.
Families can help reinforce this at home by pointing out large numbers in everyday life—such as prices, distances, or populations—and asking students to round them. For example, if your grocery bill was $135.39, you could ask your child to round it to the nearest hundred, ten, and ones. These real-world examples help students see the value of rounding outside the classroom.
Homework:
9/2 - SS #5
9/3- SS #6
9/4- SS #7 at school & SS #8 at home (due to short week)
9/5- No SS Quiz this week.
Simple Solutions Quiz Update:
This year, students will take a Simple Solutions quiz bi-weekly, which means they will have two quizzes each month. Each quiz will consist of 15 questions that align with the homework they have completed that week—some even identical to the homework questions! Students will receive a quiz sheet with 15 boxes to show their work and answer the questions, just like their homework. The quizzes will be graded out of 15 points. We will grade the homework in class, giving students the opportunity to discuss any questions or review their work together before the quiz. The graded quizzes will come home the following Wednesday, so please be sure to review your child's work to help support their math understanding at home!

Social Studies: Mrs. Crush
This week, we will continue our exploration of civics standards. Our students have been actively engaged in learning about:
Diverse Forms of Self-Government: They are comparing the political form of monarchy with the self-governing systems developed in colonial America.
Civic Participation: Students are understanding the importance of civic participation through local examples from past and current events.
Processes for Change: They are describing the processes people use to change rules and laws and how these developments improve communities to meet the needs of citizens.
I'm excited to see our students’ enthusiasm and commitment to learning about their roles as responsible citizens!

Religion: Mrs. Crush
We will be taking the MAP Test: Language Usage majority of this week.
Last week in Religion, we completed Chapter 1, God's Loving Plan, in our Word of Life workbooks. Through these lessons, students discovered that those who seek God will find Him. They will learn about their calling to be in communion with God, understand the concept of truth, and review God's plan of salvation. Most importantly, they will see that true happiness and truth can only be found in God.
Important Announcements:
Chapter 1 Test: Chapter 1, God's Living Plan, is Tuesday, September 9.* *Students will be taking the Language Usage section of the MAP test next week, which will push our test to a later date.

Additional Information
We kindly ask that you check your child’s take-home folder located in the front tab of their binder every Wednesday. All graded and completed work will be sent home on this day, so you only need to check once a week. Please take a moment to review their work and sign the signature page next to that Wednesday’s date to acknowledge their progress.
Several schools collect food for low-income students who might not otherwise have food over the weekends. The program is called Blessings in a Backpack. There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R. Kennedy Elementary which is close to Ascension.
