Skills we will be working on this week are:
Reading:
identify the themes of the story and explain how characters’ actions demonstrate specific story themes (hospitality, friendship, responsibility, irresponsibility)
Speaking/ Listening:
determine the main idea and supporting details of a text read aloud
recount a story listening carefully to act out a character’s actions and feelings
Language/Foundational Skills:
use syllabication to break written words into syllable
review short vowel sounds and multisyllable words.
Morphology:
Students will learn what morphology means and how we will apply it while reading to help us better understand new words.
Technically, morphology is "the study of the form of words". We will learn the meaning of specific prefixes and suffixes, as well as some Greek and Latin bases and how they can aid in our comprehension when reading new and challenging texts.
Writing:
Students will write collaboratively to produce an alternative ending to a story. [W.3.3]
Homework: Activity p. 2.1-2.2 (Read passage and answer 4 questions in complete sentences): Due Friday
