Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps
Skills we will be working on this week are:
Reading:
identify the themes of the story and explain how characters’ actions demonstrate specific story themes (hospitality, friendship, responsibility, irresponsibility)
identify literary devices such as, dialogue, narration, personification, and perspective (we have conversation on these topics as we read the chapters of the story)
identify which point of view a story is being told from (1st or 3rd)-(We are going much more in depth on this skill this week.)
Speaking/ Listening:
listen to a Read-Aloud for details that describe a character
Writing:
complete a graphic organizer to prepare for writing an opinion piece
draft and revise an opinion paragraph about how one specific character displays one of the 4 themes of the story
Language/Foundational Skills:
use syllabication to break written words into syllables
identify open, closed, magic e, and vowel team syllables (reading and writing words with long and short vowels)- (We will play a fun BINGO game!)
Homework: Disguise Mr. Toad Project due Friday, September 26th
-Mr. Henson may have them write a short story about how Mr. Toad uses his new disguise to escape this time!
