Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

We only have 3 classes this week and most of our time will be spent preparing for Student-Led Conferences. We will be playing a review game to go over the literary devices we learned about in our first unit, Classic Tales: The Wind in the Willows and finishing opinion writing pieces that you will get to see at conferences!

We will celebrate ending our first unit with a picnic lunch, just like Water Rat and Mole did in the story. The weather isn't looking too great for an outdoor lunch this week, so I am planning to do it the Wednesday we return from Fall Break. Students can bring in a towel or outdoor blanket to sit on. Students can still buy lunch on this day, no need to do anything out of the norm. I will have extra blankets incase anyone forgets!

Homework: No homework (unless you have a fluency passage to turn in on Wednesday-does not apply to all students)

Math-Mrs. Bennett

Our 3rd graders are learning to use the distributive property to solve larger multiplication problems, such as 4 × 13. Students are using tiles to build arrays and creating drawings to help them break bigger problems into smaller, easier chunks. This hands-on approach helps them see how multiplication connects to place value and builds a strong foundation for future math concepts. Last week, we even became “doctor mathematicians,” helping “fix” broken numbers and put them back together using the distributive property! It was a fun, creative way to practice this important skill—and we captured lots of great pictures of students hard at work and having a blast while learning.

Homework: 9/29 -10/3

I am making some changes to our homework routine this month! I want to incorporate homework that corresponds with what is currently being taught in class, along with our Simple Solutions spiral review. Students will have all week to complete the following assignments. It breaks down to one worksheet a day. Reflex will not be a required assignment this week, so students can adjust to this change in routine, but will be given time during class to complete Reflex sessions.

Social Studies- Mrs. Crush

Last week in Social Studies, we began exploring Human-Environment Interactions with the big idea of "how does geography affect culture?" The students will be examining physical maps of fictional cities, Happyland and Sportsville, to analyze various ways that people might be impacted by their environments. From this assignment, we will look at various physical maps of our state, old and new, and places around the world to compare and contrast on the human-environmental interactions.

Religion- Mrs. Crush

We will complete Chapter 2: God is Love. This chapter will help students:

know that God reveals Himself to us as the Blessed Trinity, a perfect communion of love.
recall that God has a plan to share His love with us and He invites us to be in communion with Him.
know that the theological virtues fives us the ability to be holy.
begin to know that we were created for true happiness that comes from the gift of self to God and others.

1st Trimester Service Hours and Reflections: Each student is asked to complete two service hours per trimester. Their 1st Trimester Service Hours and Reflections are due Wednesday, October 29. This will be complete on Google Classroom.

Blessings in a Backpack

Several schools collect food for low-income students who might not otherwise have food over the weekends. The program is called Blessings in a Backpack. There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R. Kennedy Elementary which is close to Ascension.
