Mrs. Bennett's Maternity Leave
Dear Families,
As many of you know, my daughter was born at the end of last school year. It has been such a joy becoming a mom, and I am incredibly grateful to be able to continue teaching, while being a mom, and have thoroughly enjoyed having Folly right down the hall! After much thought, I’ve decided to take a short maternity leave to have some special quality at home with her. I will be out for 15 school days in November.
I want to reassure you that our class will continue to grow, learn, and be challenged in all the best ways. I will still be writing all of the lesson plans myself while I’m away. Each week, I will review what the students are learning, how they are doing on key skills, and adjust the next week’s plans to meet their needs—just as I do now. Your child’s education will remain thoughtful, rigorous, and full of high expectations and support.
For homework during this time, students will complete the following assignments weekly:
Simple Solutions lessons
3 Reflex sessions per week
Students will receive a November calendar to help track their weekly Reflex sessions. I will collect and review their weekly Reflex sessions when I return, and give students a grade for completion. Students will grade their Simple Solutions homework every Friday, and have oppurtunity to ask questions or for help!
Thank you so much for your support, understanding, and partnership. I am truly grateful to work with such wonderful students and families. I will miss the class very much, but I am also excited to spend this special time with my daughter—and I look forward to returning in December with lots of stories and energy!
With gratitude,
Mrs. Bennett

Altar Serving Training:
Our 4th graders participated in Altar Server Training last week with Father Matthew! If your child would like to begin serving at weekend Masses, please reach out to Patrick Parris at pparris@ascension-parish.com. Patrick will help get them set up with Mass times and dates. *Please note only those who have received their First Holy Communion are able to altar serve.
As for school Mass, 4th graders will continue serving after Christmas. At that time, I will pair them with an experienced server so they can learn and practice alongside them. Students will be notified about a week in advance if they are scheduled to serve during a school Mass.
I’m looking forward to seeing our 4th graders begin serving at weekend Masses—it’s such a wonderful way for them to be involved in our parish community!
Several schools collect food for low-income students who might not otherwise have food over the weekends. The program is called Blessings in a Backpack. There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R. Kennedy Elementary which is close to Ascension.
