What we are Learning This Week
Math: Mrs. Bennett
This week our class is wrapping up our unit on area and perimeter! Students have been exploring how shapes can have the same area but different perimeters, or the same perimeter but different areas. We’ve also been practicing how to find the area of combined figures and discussing how these skills connect to real-life situations, like designing floor plans or outdoor spaces.
To celebrate their learning, students worked on real-world activities that showed how perimeter measures the distance around a shape, while area measures the space inside. They’ve done a fantastic job applying formulas, solving for missing side lengths, and explaining how perimeter and area are related yet different.
Our unit test will be on Thursday 10/2 and will cover both area and perimeter. Students have practice problems posted on their HMH Dashboard, which will be a great resource for reviewing at home. Thank you for encouraging your child to practice and prepare — it makes a big difference!
Homework: 9/29 -10/3
I am making some changes to our homework routine this month! I want to incorporate homework that corresponds with what is currently being taught in class, along with our Simple Solutions spiral review. Students will have all week to complete the following assignments. It breaks down to one worksheet a day. Reflex will not be a required assignment this week, so students can adjust to this change in routine, but will be given time during class to complete Reflex sessions.
