Math: Mrs. Bennett
This week in Math class students will be taking the Math MAP test! Students will test for 25 - 30 minutes each day. Afterwards, they will have a brain break before going to their next class. With any additional time, we will continue to work on rounding 5-6 digit numbers to the nearest ten, hundreds, thousand, ten thousand, and hundred thousands.

9/9- SS #10
9/10- SS #11
9/11 - SS #12
9/12 - SS Quiz
Simple Solutions Quiz Update:
This year, students will take a Simple Solutions quiz bi-weekly, which means they will have two quizzes each month. Each quiz will consist of 15 questions that align with the homework they have completed that week—some even identical to the homework questions! Students will receive a quiz sheet with 15 boxes to show their work and answer the questions, just like their homework. The quizzes will be graded out of 15 points. We will grade the homework in class, giving students the opportunity to discuss any questions or review their work together before the quiz. The graded quizzes will come home the following Wednesday, so please be sure to review your child's work to help support their math understanding at home!

Skills we are developing this week include:
Reading:
refer to examples from the text when discussing the influence of the church on the daily lives of people in medieval Europe
use textual evidence during the chapter discussion to support the author’s claim that the Battle of Hastings changed history
Writing:
draft an informative paragraph about the life of a serf during the Middle Ages that includes a topic sentence, detail sentences, transition words, and a concluding sentence
use a graphic organizer to produce clear and coherent writing that compares the lives of medieval knights, craftsmen, monks, and nuns
collect facts from the text that support their opinions and include them in a graphic organizer.
Morphology:
use their knowledge of the prefixes un– and non– and root words to read and interpret unfamiliar words
suffix -ly meaning "like or manner of" (makes a word an adjective because it describes the verb, ex: quickly ran)
Grammar:
identify the function of a preposition
identify common homophones; learn the distinction between to, too, and two

Social Studies: Mrs. Crush
This week, we will continue our exploration of civics standards. Our students have been actively engaged in learning about:
Diverse Forms of Self-Government: They are comparing the political form of monarchy with the self-governing systems developed in colonial America.
Civic Participation: Students are understanding the importance of civic participation through local examples from past and current events.
Processes for Change: They are describing the processes people use to change rules and laws and how these developments improve communities to meet the needs of citizens.

This week, we will complete Chapter 1, God's Loving Plan, and begin Chapter 2, Faith, Reason, and the Eternal Law, in our Word of Life workbooks. This chapter will help students:
Know that the eternal law is God's divine plan of love for all creation.
Realize that by following God's moral laws, they can live with true freedom.
Realize that by exploring the world and asking questions, they can understand that natural law.
Understand that faith and reason are not opposed to each other because both come from God.
Important Announcements:

Additional Information
We kindly ask that you check your child’s take-home folder located in the front tab of their binder every Wednesday. All graded and completed work will be sent home on this day, so you only need to check once a week. Please take a moment to review their work and sign the signature page next to that Wednesday’s date to acknowledge their progress.
Several schools collect food for low-income students who might not otherwise have food over the weekends. The program is called Blessings in a Backpack. There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R. Kennedy Elementary which is close to Ascension.
