Week of Mar. 16 - 20
Week of Mar. 16 - 20
iPad Reminder:
Students are expected to come to school with their iPads charged to 80% or higher. We’ve noticed several students arriving with batteries under 20%, which requires charging during class and interrupts learning. If a student comes to school three or more days in a week below 80%, they will receive a written assignment and will not be able to take their iPad home. This may result in incomplete work if they cannot access their homework. Please help your child come prepared each day to ensure a smooth and productive learning experience! Thank you!

What we are Learning This Week
Math: Mrs. Bennett
Fourth graders are beginning an exciting new unit on fractions, and we are connecting this work to the division strategies students just learned. Students will explore how a fraction can represent a division situation. For example, if three friends share two cookies, each friend receives 2/3 of a cookie. We will model situations like this by drawing pictures and even using Post-it notes to physically cut and share pieces, helping students visualize how the fraction represents the result of a division problem. Later in the week, students will begin comparing fractions using multiple strategies such as drawings, models, and reasoning about the size of the pieces.

Social Studies: Mrs. Crush
Last week, Mr. Mullaney attended our class and the students interviewed him on one particular county that they studied and everyone learns more about that county.
We are also continue working in our state postcard exchange! We have already received several postcards from around the country and will be mailing ours out soon as well.
Religion: Mrs. Crush
Last week, students selected a saint by lottery to begin researching for our Saint Cereal Box Project. They are using a Saint Planning Guide, classroom saint books, and websites in Google Classroom to gather information, and these guides will stay at school to help keep everything organized. Research will be completed by March 20, and students will spend the following week creating their cereal box projects, which will be finished by Thursday, March 26. With permission from Father Matthew, the projects will be displayed in the AMR (Adult Meeting Room) across from the church from March 27–29, and families are welcome to stop by during the Fish Fry or after Mass to see them. Students will also participate in a Saints Madness bracket, where saints advance based on questions created from the information on each cereal box. After the project, families may choose to donate the cereal box or take it home. Thank you for your support—this should be a fun Saints Madness!

Several schools collect food for low-income students who might not otherwise have food over the weekends. The program is called Blessings in a Backpack. There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R. Kennedy Elementary which is close to Ascension.
