Week of Mar. 23 - 27
Week of Mar. 23 - 27
iPad Reminder:
Students are expected to come to school with their iPads charged to 80% or higher. We’ve noticed several students arriving with batteries under 20%, which requires charging during class and interrupts learning. If a student comes to school three or more days in a week below 80%, they will receive a written assignment and will not be able to take their iPad home. This may result in incomplete work if they cannot access their homework. Please help your child come prepared each day to ensure a smooth and productive learning experience! Thank you!

What we are Learning This Week
Math: Mrs. Bennett
We will continue into our unit on Fraction Comparison and Equivalence. This week, students are now deepening their understanding of comparing fractions by using benchmark strategies. They are learning to think about how close a fraction is to 1/2 or 1 whole to help make comparisons. For example, when comparing 4/5 and 7/8, students think about which fraction is closer to 1 whole by considering the size of the remaining piece. Just like runners in a race approaching the finish line, we ask: who is closer to the end? This helps students see that even though both fractions are close to 1, the size of the pieces matters—eighths are smaller than fifths, so 7/8 is closer to 1 whole. Students are also beginning to explore equivalent fractions, building an understanding that different fractions can represent the same amount, which will support their reasoning as we continue comparing fractions in more complex ways.

Last week, Mr. Mullaney attended our class and the students interviewed him on one particular county that they studied and everyone learns more about that county.
We are also continue working in our state postcard exchange! We have already received several postcards from around the country and will be mailing ours out soon as well.
Religion: Mrs. Crush
Majority of students completed the "Saint Planning Guide" (rough draft) for their Saint Cereal Box Project last week. Students will spend this week creating their cereal box projects, which will be finished by the end of their Religion Class on Thursday, March 26.
*If I feel the student will not be able to complete their Saint Cereal Box Project during Wednesday and Thursday's Religion Class, I will notify the parent(s) via email on Tuesday afternoon to complete part of it at home that will be due the following day.
With permission from Father Matthew, the projects will be displayed in the AMR (Adult Meeting Room) across from the church from March 27–29, and families are welcome to stop by during the Fish Fry or after Mass to see them.
Students will also participate in a Saints Madness bracket, where saints advance based on questions created from the information on each cereal box. After the project, families may choose to donate the cereal box or take it home. Thank you for your support! Looking forward to seeing their final products!

Several schools collect food for low-income students who might not otherwise have food over the weekends. The program is called Blessings in a Backpack. There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R. Kennedy Elementary which is close to Ascension.
