Week of Mar. 9 - 13
Week of Mar. 9 - 13
iPad Reminder:
Students are expected to come to school with their iPads charged to 80% or higher. We’ve noticed several students arriving with batteries under 20%, which requires charging during class and interrupts learning. If a student comes to school three or more days in a week below 80%, they will receive a written assignment and will not be able to take their iPad home. This may result in incomplete work if they cannot access their homework. Please help your child come prepared each day to ensure a smooth and productive learning experience! Thank you!

What we are Learning This Week
Math: Mrs. Bennett
Fourth graders are working on interpreting remainders in division problems. We are using the strategy T.A.C.O. to remember the four ways a remainder can be handled: Trash, Allocate, Copy, and One More. Students are learning that the correct strategy depends on carefully reading the context of the problem. For example, if 25 students need to ride in vans that hold 4 students each, students must decide whether to add one more van to fit everyone. If 25 cookies are shared among 4 children, they may need to allocate the remainder by cutting the cookies into smaller pieces. Students will also practice writing their own division word problems that require interpreting remainders. Our Chapter Test will take place on Friday, March 12. A study guide is available to help students prepare. The test will cover dividing by 1-digit divisors and interpreting remainders.

This week we will being our next unit! This unit will be about the American Revolution and the class seems very excited about it! Here is a summary of the unit: This unit centers around the big idea that disagreements
about principles of government led colonists in North America to seek independence from Great Britain. The causes, major figures, and consequences of the American Revolution provide a framework for understanding both what caused the thirteen colonies to break away and become an independent nation and what significant ideas and values were at the heart of the American Revolution. Students review the stages of the writing process, enact and record key information from vignettes corresponding to the causes of the American Revolution, and develop a five-paragraph cause and effect essay. Students learn the prefixes im– and in–, the suffixes –ible and –able, and the root word port. They also learn modal auxiliary verbs and continue developing their use of commas and quotation marks and employing correct subject-verb agreement.
Homework: Activity p. 1.4 (complete the sentences. Check CUPS)

Several schools collect food for low-income students who might not otherwise have food over the weekends. The program is called Blessings in a Backpack. There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R.
