Blue Group
Our blue group will begin exploring how to compare fractions using concrete and visual models. Students will use tools such as fraction circles, fraction bars, and number lines to build a strong understanding of fraction size. We will focus first on fractions with the same denominator, helping students see that when parts are the same size, having more pieces means a greater value (for example, 3/5 is greater than 2/5). Then, we will explore fractions with the same numerator, where students will learn that fewer, larger pieces create a greater value (for example, 3/8 is greater than 3/10). These hands-on experiences will help students develop a deeper understanding of how and why fractions can be compared.
Yellow Group
This week, our yellow group will begin working on adding and subtracting mixed numbers, starting with problems that have like denominators. Using models, students will explore situations such as 2 2/5 − 1 4/5 and recognize that we cannot subtract 4/5 from 2/5 without regrouping. They will practice breaking apart a whole into fractional pieces (like fifths) so they can successfully subtract. As students grow more confident, we will move into problems with unlike denominators. Throughout this work, we will focus on aligning whole numbers and fractions correctly, identifying when regrouping is needed, and rewriting improper fractions as mixed numbers to represent their answers clearly.

HMH Sheet Due Friday
In Social Studies, our 3rd-grade students are diving into the exciting world of finances and entrepreneurship through three engaging activities:
Part 1: Personal Finances
Students are envisioning their future and thinking about their dreams—and the costs associated with achieving them. They will create a simple budget and participate in a real-life financial simulation, learning valuable lessons about money management.
Part 2: The Free Enterprise System
In small groups, students will become budding entrepreneurs by designing and selling a product. Classmates will act as consumers, and groups will reflect on their company’s expenses, profits, and pricing decisions, gaining insights into the free enterprise system.
Part 3: Entrepreneurs at Work
Students will research famous entrepreneurs and explore their contributions to society. Through collaborative research and presentations, they will share their findings, fostering appreciation for innovation and the spirit of entrepreneurship.
This hands-on learning experience is sure to inspire creativity, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of economics!
I'm so proud of all the students coming together to research their saints and creating clever cereal covers for their Saint Cereal Box Project. They did a fabulous job! Thank you everyone who came to see them!
This week, students will participate in a Saints Madness bracket, where saints advance based on questions created from the information on each cereal box. We will most likely have to complete when we return from Spring Break.
Important Announcements:
3rd Trimester Service Hours and Reflections: Each student is asked to complete two service hours per trimester. Their 3rd Trimester Service Hours and Reflections are due Wednesday, May 13. This will be completed on Google Classroom. Optional: complete log on paper.
Several schools collect food for low-income students who might not otherwise have food over the weekends. The program is called Blessings in a Backpack. There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R. Kennedy Elementary which is close to Ascension.
