Unit 9: Coastlines & Human Impact

Weathering and Erosion – Identify the basic forces, features, and evidence of the processes of weathering, erosion and deposition. Differentiate between chemical and mechanical weathering and examine the specific means by which water, wind, ice, and gravity can shape the surface.

Coastal Features – Use proper terminology to identify the topographic and physiographic features that form or give evidence of coastal erosion and deposition

-How do the forces of erosion and deposition impact the different types of coastlines?

Fisheries – Explore the history of humans and fishing. Investigate key species and the patterns, impact, and future of this major source of food.

Pollution – Identify sources and the results of pollution on life in the oceans

Ocean Resources – Investigate the potential wealth of mineral and energy resources within and beneath the oceans

-How do humans utilize ocean resources and what role does behavior and regulation play in our use of the world’s largest biome?
