Unit - Respiratory System (ch16)
Why is it almost acceptable to describe your respiratory system like “a backward inside-out tree shoved up your nose?"
This unit explores the structures, functions and pathology of the respiratory system. It will describe the layout, organs and associated tissues and relate specific features to the processes of inspiration, expiration and gas exchange. Specific focus will be given to the identification of critical differences between respiratory mucosa and respiratory membranes. Patterns of breathing and changes in lung volume will be examined. Finally, this unit will examine the wide range of diseases, disorders and infections that can impact respiratory functions.
