April 5-22 - turn in forms, pay the $15 food charge, complete preparatory lessons
Monday, April 25 - Classroom visit from Nat Draper, Education Manager, James River Association
Wednesday, April 27 - Make sure you have everything packed
Thursday-Friday, April 28-29 - Field Trip to the Ecology School (basic activity/food schedule below)

Background: The James River Association is a Virginia based nonprofit organization with a mission to improve awareness and increase education in relation to the James River and other water resources. An anonymous donor has offered the JRA a grant to cover the expenses for a group to participate in the James River Association’s Ecology School. Surry County High School has been chosen as the recipient of this grant award, valued at $2000.
Purpose of this activity:
Students who attend this trip will be given first-hand opportunities to participate in activities that include data collection and observation in the natural environment. Many of the activities specifically address the standards as outlined for the Biology SOL (including, but not limited to Bio 1,2,7,8).
General Information:
Total number of students: Max of 30
Chaperones: Mr. Brinkman and Ms. Creef (or female substitute), as well as JRA staff members
Sleeping facilities: Separate bunk rooms for boys and girls, chaperones stay in rooms with students
Food: Meals and snacks will be provided, purchased using funds collected from students. Thursday will have a bag lunch, snacks and a communal dinner. The students will also be fed breakfast, returning to school for lunch on Friday. (menu in progress)
