Lesson: Cell Genetics & Division

How are cells regulated in their function and in their growth and division?

This lesson gives a basic review of the processes of gene expression and cell division. Students will transcribe and translate DNA into RNA and proteins given base sequences. Students will also explore how cell division is regulated and the potential negative impacts from uncontrolled division.

Lesson: Cell Genetics and Division

  1. Know the difference between mitosis & meiosis (# of divisions, # of cells, comparing DNA with parent and sister cells.)

  2. Describe the role of mitosis in growth, development (including the importance of stem cells), repair and tumor formation.

  3. Describe the role of meiosis in producing gametes for sexual reproduction.
