Unit 2 - Chemicals and Cells
What are we made of?
This unit reviews the principles of chemistry and biochemistry with a focus on their applications in the study of the cells that make up the human body. Special attention will be given to the properties of water and investigate the monomers and polymers that compose the four categories of organic molecules. They will also relate the membrane and cellular structure to function. The students will examine issues of gene expression, metabolism, respiration and tissue formation.
