SOL 6 - Modern Classification Systems

Unit Summary: This unit investigates the rise of the modern system of classification. Biologists once relied on looking at organisms and saying "Animal, Vegetable, or Mineral?" Modern systems of classification, a greater understanding of the fossil record, and modern investigations of embryology and genetics allow both a more accurate distribution and a willingness to rearrange systems as new evidence is unearthed and comprehended.
