Coastal Winds
- Sea Breeze - day time as air warms faster over land, rises, cooler air moves from water towards land
- Land Breeze - night time as air rises over still-warm water, cooler air moves from land to water
Orogenic (mountain winds)
- Rising Winds- day time, air moves up slope as it warms
- Falling winds- night time, air moves down slope as it cools
Rainshadow - deserts form on leeward side of mountains that are receive moist winds. Air rises, cools and condenses to release moisture on windward side, dry air descends other side

Activity - Beaufort Scale - students illustrate their own version to show the range of winds and their effects
- variations include showing the examples and video in the slideshow and add a definition to the lecture notes
Beaufort scale - originally used by sailors to describe winds at sea, it ranges from 0 "calm" to 12 "hurricane force"
Diagrams - Regional Winds - create simple diagrams for the students to draw in their notes to illustrate the concepts
