Is water wet?
While this question has torn apart friendships, it is actually an important question. Since this class devotes a semester to oceans, which are mostly water, it is important to begin with an understanding of what water really is.

Vocabulary- Some Basic Water Terms - preview of critical vocabulary
H TWO WHOA- review questions regarding structure and phases of water
Instruction, Presentations, Assignments, Activities, etc:
Vocab and Diagrams -Atomic Structure of Water - review vocabulary and discuss the structure and implications of water's properties.
Activity - Water Meet & Greet - students make observations and perform a taste test of several samples of water (School, Bottled, 5 Cat Barn, Marl Spring Farm...). Students complete this form as they taste/observe.
Closure- The Importance of Ice Density – article/activity- students read article and compose a journalistic analysis (who/where/what/when/why/how). Then they get into groups and discuss.
Notes - Water and Measurement - draw connections between water, the units and tools of measurement.
