Lesson: Nonrenewable Resources

What materials are extracted from the environment at rates beyond their replacement?

This lesson examines the group of resources considered "nonrenewable." These resources are used for energy and materials production and are not replaced by natural processes at a rate that equals their use. These resources are critical, but the environmental costs for extraction and use are high. Students will learn how these resources are produced and extracted, as well as the costs and benefits of their use.
