Summary of Study

In 2016 the League became aware of two studies, one by the Sixth Amendment Center (2015) and one by the ACLU (2011) both of which found the state of Utah was deficient in fulfilling its responsibility to ensure indigent defendants receive their constitutionally-guaranteed right to counsel. This study is the result of the League’s investigation into the issue. It presents information about Utah’s present attempts to meet its constitutional responsibility and what still needs to be addressed.
