Title of Study
Study of Potential Gravel Mining in Brunner Forest Preserve, Kane County FPD
Summary of Study
In 2008, the Kane County Forest Preserve District purchased the Brunner property for $40 million. Almost immediately, there were quiet, back room discussions of mining the gravel on the property to offset the cost of building a road through the preserve for Kane County. The public outrage that followed this discovery led to a study of the potential impacts as well as charges of non-transparency and "mission drift." It also led to a proposed ban on gravel mining in forest preserves (SB2484).
