Study of Potential
Gravel Mining in Brunner Forest Preserve, Kane County FPD
|
|
Summary
of Study
(limit 500 characters)
|
In 2008, the Kane
County Forest Preserve District purchased the Brunner property for $40
million. Almost immediately, there
were quiet, back room discussions of mining the gravel on the property to
offset the cost of building a road through the preserve for Kane County. The public outrage that followed this
discovery led to a study of the potential impacts as well as charges of
non-transparency and "mission drift." It also led to a proposed ban on gravel
mining in forest preserves (SB2484).
