Public Assistance as Public Policy

Summary of Study (limit 500 characters)

In the larger picture, public assistance can be defined as “a direct benefit to an individual, or a corporation, in the form of cash, services, goods, or tax credit or deduction”. Our study touches on the broad range of benefits to Americans of all income levels, from home mortgage tax deductions to Medicaid and food stamps. At the eye of the maelstrom, however, is welfare, or Aid for Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), the main focus of our study and a program now repealed by Congress.
